New York State Police

About Us

The New York State Police is the primary law enforcement agency for the state of New York. We have over 5,000 sworn troopers and over 700 civilian support staff. The NYSP is made up of 4 bureaus: the Bureau of Patrol, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Bureau of Counter Terrorism (including SORT) and Division Headquaters (including PSA).

The New York State Police holds elections for the office of superintendent every 4 years (4 months) and each superintendent is limited to 2 terms in office.

Our aim is to ensure and safe and friendly environment for our 19,453,561 citizens. All of our officers are trained to the highest standard in both crime prevention and community outreach as we want every citizen to feel safe when walking the streets of our state.
