We had a two week trial last time, didn't work lmao.

Wasn't it a 1 week trial?

Issues with the map didn't really happen until a month or 2 after the map changed

Wanting EvoCity back is like Stockholm Syndrome and wanting to go back to your kidnapper/hostagetaker.

This map is literally so shitty, not optimized and has leaks all over the place. :monkaS:
Yes please.

I think it’s time for a map change.
Although if the change to southside ends up being a no, we could try Rockford?
I'd say give it a shot.

While evocity is recognisable and familiar, the nostalgia is starting to fade

Guv

optimisation is big thing for me, when the server is at round bout 30 odd players and theres a few dupes around the map for rp or basing or whatever i hold between roughly 14 and 9 FPS

and then when ‍ gets on with his 900 prop hospital roughly bout 4-9 FPS so if this map is gonna stand a chance at better performance then im all in

Hi, current plans include very big builds which you'll never find because R E N D E R  D I S T A N C E

I can't wait
I fink yesh
If this goes through, could we switch build to Southside a couple of days prior? Would allow for cool dupes on the first day instead of what happened with V4B1 where people spent more time oggling than RPing
Whilst i understand (and am optimistic about) the positive features of southside i still fear the harm it does to our building scene. Rooftops and small parking lots are no alternative to open fields or the open sideskirts of a road.

I know there has been a ton of back an forth on this and sure to some degree this is a somewhat subjective matter. It mainly depends on ones building skill and interest in building in the first place. But I can only urge you to load up the map in single player and actualy try building a semi decent cafee, shop, clan base or likewise facility.... youll see the struggle.

Rooftops cant accomodate most of our previous dupes in a realistic manner - the water is open but it needs quite a few additional props to make any structure not look completely out of place and it doesnt have raod access either. Unfortunatly even the parkign lots are relatively small and garnished by large streetlights and bushes that are really difficult to hide if one were to build something larger there.

I get it: I like building stuff - some people dont care - some are probably a bit more optimistic
But to the optimist i dare you to show me a decent build you made in the parking lot or likewise. Because quite frankly this map seriously limits our creative freedom.

As for the building interiors. Most of that stuff seems to be integrated into the map and not removable.

For me what kept gmod alive and unique through all this time is that no other game allowed you such a degree of creative freedom. No other game allowed you to litterarly become, create and do everything you could imagine. 5M is great but it doesnt let you fool around with such details etc... Arma 3 has decent rp communities but they too lack that very freedom.... If we are choosing this map we eliminate a good part of said freedom and with it a large chunk of the stuff that keeps people like me bound to the game. Frankly there are various other communities and games that have greater ressources than we have. Please keep that in mind when voting.

So yes: in the end its a subjective matter wether you value building/dupes in generall. But it hardly can be denied that this map seriously decrease any freedom to build to a bare minimum. A minimum that almost strips of us of what i believe to be limelights greatest asset.

Its your choice, your opinion and your take on wether or not you value that aspect. You are perfectly fine to disagree. But if you disagree on my stance towards the lack of building space (as in: you insist it does not affect us to serious degree) i welcome you to proof me wrong.

Coming from someone who loves building dupes and has done it for years:

If we do end up going with the map and we find it fitting for our CityRP style, we could always just ask the author to make smaller changes such as change a few unused buildings into construction sites, or an open green area. It is not unheard of in the Garry's Mod scene. Especially with the interior props that could easily be removed by the author (like it was done for some shops in Truenorth).

All I'm saying is that this map's got something unique and if we stick with it, we could tailor it to our liking.
I'd happily throw in a few bucks if that was the case.
We can not simply "ask the author" as much as i would love that. The author is a free human beeing with no association to limelight. Why would he bother? We could try to pay him - sure. But generally he would need to be open for this. We cant tell that yet. Also things like this do take time. Since it probably wouldnt be too simple to edit the map if the author would want to stick to the overall quality of it. This stuff takes time - if we are lucky enough to get there.

This could theoreticly be an option  - nothing more than an option though. We dont have that yet nor can we be certain that we will get that at any time (FL is a good example of how/why map editing can be a bit complicated at times).
