Full Version: [ADVISORY | IMPORTANT] Source Code Leak

Hello community.

It's come to our attention that as of recent, the source code to the CS:GO and TF2 games have been floating around the internet and vulnerabilities have been found in TF2. This situation is evolving quite quickly as Valve's relevant departments are trying to look into this, so I figured we need to make our stance as a community clear. All information about the leak was correct at time of posting.

Links to the torrents, content or discussion on where to find the leaked content will not be permitted across any of our services. Staff have been given instructions to delete the posts where this happens and warn under Posting Rule 5, categorised as unsafe content, which will apply a 5 point warning immediately. Our policy on applying double points to those who are permanently banned is still in effect, so this would mean you would receive an immediate forum suspension if you do this. Further punishment for up to a month may also be considered.

Our primary thought is to keep our community safe, and allowing for people to share the links to the leaks would put both the individual and the community in danger. On that note, we currently do not suggest playing TF2. Please uninstall it for now, pending review from their developers. There has been what's called an RCE exploit found in TF2, which for the non-technical people in the community, means that code can be ran remotely on your computer. This is obviously unsafe, and should be avoided completely until TF2 developers have taken a look at the situation. There is currently no information to suggest that any other games, Garry's Mod included, is at risk.

If you have any questions regarding how staff are responding to the current situation, please feel free to reach out to ‍ or myself.

Thank you all for your support in this, and we hope you stay safe.

So, as an update to the entire team on the Valve Source Leak situation. We've advised against playing TF2 until Valve released statements / fixed any issues.

From what we can see, there's no further issue, so we're retracting that advice, though we always advise keeping games up to date and following developer warnings about issues which may arise in the future.
