(Feb 24, 2020, 10:05 PM)Faustin Wrote: [ -> ]Are you aware Auston (and I think Stomm too) live on the West Coast of America, putting them 8 hours behind you? They don't get off work until 1am UK time. I don't see how you can criticise their activity when there is such a massive time difference.

I was aware Auston was from America, yes. Stomm, I wasn't. Even then I have a quick look at OOC relay on discord and their names are no where to be seen. Also some nights I am on late till early morning (UK time) and don't see them. Only person from America, that I know of, I see on is Reebs.

EDIT: I don't see a lot of activity on the forums from them either. Bambo stated the minimum requirements I feel like they just do that each month.

If you took at "peak" times, for arguments sake we'll say above 15 players, this occures roughly between the hours of 7pm and 9pm UTC (UK time e.g. Guv). If you compare this to EST (East Coast e.g. Reebs) and PST (West Coast e.g. Auston) you can see why Auston and Stomm are "inactive".

Let's say they both work 9-5 jobs, that means they will be working 5pm - 1am UTC (which happens to be the period of time in which the peak player count is). After above 12am UTC, the playercount drops off completely. So now you have to consider, why bother coming on if there is only 1 player on the server? You're not going to be roleplaying. There is literally no point other than contrafarming.

(If that was too hard to understand, please allow me to use a visual representation)

We'll use the pink line as the minimum for the server to be considered at "peak population". As you can see from the red times (UK time) the playercount is above this line roughly between the hours of 7pm and 9-10pm. The blue times show EST (east coast US time), which has the peak between 2pm and 4-5pm, which barely gives east coast americans time to be apart of the "peak", depending on the time they finish school/work. They may only be online with more than 15 players for 30-60 minutes. The situation is even more drastic for those living in PST (west coast US time), displayed by the green times. In this area, peak time is roughly 11am to 1-2pm and during this time the vast majority of people will be at work and/or school.

Considering all this data, do you now understand why Stomm and Auston's activity is lower than the rest?

(Screenshot of playercount was taken at 20:11, despite this being posted at 20:28. The times on the graph will not be 100% accuracy, and you should allow up to 1 hour either way, but this doesn't take away from my point.)

Yeah I understand time zones and player count. I was unaware of what part of America they live in as I never speak to them. I just assumed if Reebs was on at UK peak times then they could. Still doesn't support the never posting on forums point though.

If that's too much information, please enjoy the graph below. (The graph only details posts, as all teachers have <4 threads a month on average.)

With the notable exception of Kelle up until February and Insert/Guv in the month of October, posts have been fairly lacking from all members of the team. So why do you feel it appropriate to single out Auston and Stomm? Yes the chart above does show Auston on the bottom, but it also showns Stomm to be regularly posting more than Cole.

If you're going to use forum posts as a metric for activity, at least look into who is actually posting before accusing XYZ of being inactive.
I think it's important to remember that teachers provide more to the community than just replying to /helps and encouraging roleplay although this is a massive part of what they do they are also on hand to assist with things backstage i.e input into the community from a member of the community chosen by the community. Replying to treads choosing other teachers to join the team. You'd be surprised how much a lot of them do behind the scenes.

Activity is important in-game also I would say from my experience on the teacher team when my activity dropped the then teacher lesion did catch up with me and speak to me about this personally. I was going through some things in my personal life which they took under consideration. It's important to remember time zones like mentioned but also almost every member of the team from teachers to staff are volunteers and maybe going through some stuff outside of this interweb reiterating why it's bad practice to call them out on that so openly.

There is literally no cap on teachers, anyone with experience who wishes to join the team can do so I don't really see your point that there are better people for the role because they could literally just apply and they would have the same opportunity that any current or past teacher has had, a fair trial based on there overall roleplay, helpfulness, activity, and personality etcetera.

Please don't take this the wrong way just think it's easy sometimes to see one side of things without looking at the bigger picture without insight. Hope this helps.

Neat data but Auston hasn't even logged in to his forum account in over a month. I just cannot imagine he is being that productive. (feel free to show me I am wrong tho)

I can appreciate that, but this limelight's own definition of a teacher:

What do they do?

In-game their primary focus is to aid players with game related systems and answer any questions to the best of their knowledge. Teachers also play a vital role in the Help & Support section of the forum.
