Police officer injured after freak Nexus lift accident
Emergency services respond to the incident at the Nexus
EVOCITY, ID - An officer from the Marion County Sheriff's Office was injured earlier today after apparently falling into an elevator shaft.
It is understood by the EvoCity Newspaper that the elevator doors opened in error, causing the officer, who was attending a report of a trespasser, to walk into the shaft itself.
The officer was initially treated by tactical medics from the Sheriff's Office, before the local fire department arrived and took over. The officer has been transported to EvoCity Hospital, where he is expected to survive but with potentially life-changing injuries.
The Nexus Technical Department says it will cooperate fully with a police and OSHA investigation into the incident, and says it has taken precautions to ensure that the accident cannot occur again.
Speaking on behalf of the Sheriff's Office, Captain Sebastian Kruger said, "Our thoughts are currently with our colleague who we wish a speedy recovery, and with our colleague's family. It would be inappropriate for us to comment any further at this time."
