Yeah I really do miss Rockford. Regardless if it helps the playerbase or not, it would be pretty sweet to go back to Rockford. Personally don't like Evocity at all.
The reason I made this thread was to determine what things we liked about the 3 main maps we have tried so far:
Truenorth, Evocity, and Rockford.
For me, I liked Truenorth's openness, and natural environment and disliked how it separated the players.
In Evocity I liked the hub and how there was both a suburb, a flat area as well as a city.
In Rockford, I liked how it was similar to Evocity and yet felt more modern.
This thread was made to be a guideline if we are ever making a custom map.
Thank you for your input and keep 'em coming!
I personally adored Truenorth's "city" area, it didn't have massive skyscrapers. The 2-4 storey buildings in the downtown area make sense given the size of the area, as opposed to Evocity's skyscrapers.
There have been many threads like this one. They are well intended, but this community has made it expressly clear that they do not want a custom map. Some of the members even said they were working on a map, then did absolutely nothing.
The mixture of what is needed for a map to fit this community is pretty simple.
1 City
1 Sub-City that is away from the main city
3-5 residential areas
1-3 water sources for fishing
No isolated main areas, meaning that there should always be at least two ways in or out of the city, subcity, main areas leading to residential areas to avoid bottlenecking and cramping chases
In the city it needs: 1 Main government office, 1 Sub government building for the EMS/FD RP, and preferably a police department not located with either of the other two, Rockford's main city government block was a decent example, 1 gas station and a few buildings for shop or other than residential RP. A park or otherwise public area is a plus.
Sub City: 1 Gas station, multiple buildings designed for team play. Evo Industrial is a decent mold, just add a gas station.
Water sources: I recommend at least 2, so to avoid people blocking the only one off and causing stupid PR issues.
Additional features: People do not seem to enjoy mono-level play. They want the ability to gain high ground or hide in low ground. Makes the world feel more normal when the ground isn't completely the same level, but too much is a bad thing, like in Rockford hill or TrueNorth sometimes the conditions were basically unusable for RP.
Each criminal team should have a general area they spawn in that is unique to them and like minded jobs (IE you shouldn't have citizens spawning next to the anarchists, but the BMD could be okay)
I don't have time to finish going over the rest of the details, but they are largely minor.
Problem with this whole thing though, even if you did make it, it wouldn't be hosted and people would just bitch about it.
Look at every map change that has occured. Every single time, bitching happens and people quit because they aren't getting what they want.
Instead of maps, lets fix the broken aspects of the game, like how Chefs are invalidated by fishing still and instead of fixing it, they improved fishing.... Prepared and seasoned food is better than raw food, that's why resturants exist.

Regarding your last two sentences, I have been offered to be able to test a map, so I don't think the Team's against the idea, also we've never had a custom made map that was hand-tailored to our community's needs such as San Raveno.
I'm leaving, but before I do let me just say this. If you got the go ahead to start the project, do it. I've said from day one that a custom map would be the best way to go. Go get it man. And do it well. Best wishes and best of luck to you.
