Jack Kruger
Chief Executive Officer, Horizon Group
Age: 39
Place of Birth: Johannesburg, South Africa
Nationality: South African, American
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Date of death: August 6, 2021
Service
44 Parachute Regiment (South Africa) (1997-2001)
Attained the rank of Corporal before leaving in 2001.
South African Police Service Special Task Force (2001-2004)
Attained the rank of Sergeant before going to the private sector in 2004 following a questionable fatal shooting.
Private Security Contractor (2004-2009)
From 2003, Kruger worked in the private sector as a security contractor and consultant, working between South Africa and Iraq, eventually growing to open his own business. Kruger was also accused to have been illegally supplying weapons (gunrunning) around this time. He denies any illegal activity, but does admit sales he says were legal.
WY-SEC (2009-20)
Kruger was headhunted as an Operator for WY-SEC in 2009 and has worked for WY-SEC since, previously in South Africa and in Asia as a senior operational manager before being transferred to the company's US operations. He rose through the ranks in the US and became the Executive Director for Global Security Operations, making him the de-facto executive of WY-SEC and an important executive in the corporation. He was responsible for the detachment directly responsible for the security of the CEO in addition to his executive position. In mid-2020, citing problems with internal processes and with Weyland-Yutani's CEO, Kruger, along with a friend, unexpectedly and immediately resigned from the corporation. A small legal battle ensues between Kruger and the corporation about his benefits, as well as his new operations in the same industry.
Horizon Group (2020-)
Jack Kruger formed Kruger Security as his main business for private military work and weapons sales as a contractor around 2006. When he went to work for Weyland-Yutani, this became a side business, selling weapons for some extra cash. Now he has left the corporation, Jack has brought his business to the forefront again, opening under the umbrella the 'Horizon Group' and started recruiting for some lucrative contracts. Accused of being a front for illegal gunrunning and mercenaries, Jack Kruger is in the industry on his own again, unconstrained, and this time he's more ambitious than ever.
Appearance/Personality:
Jack is a tall, muscular figure. He has brown hair, a brown "operator" beard and brown eyes with a cold, dead stare. He is heavily tattooed, however generally wears long sleeves or is wearing a suit, and so these are very rarely, if ever, on show. He generally wears a dark coloured suit. On his finger is a wedding ring. Kruger's sanity is called into question (only partly jokingly) on a daily basis by his colleagues. When it counts, Kruger is downright professional; on a mission, or in the corporate boardroom he is professional and to the point. Only after a mission does he start cracking jokes (often of a dark, cruel and maniacal nature). At home he is somewhat dismissive of his wife, although protective over her and somewhere in there loving of her.
Backstory:
Jack was born in March 1981 and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa to an upper-middle class family with a strong military and police background. As was his family tradition, Kruger opted to join the South African Army in 1997 at the age of 18, joining 44 Parachute Regiment.
Jack served in the military for five years, before leaving and joining the South African Police Service. Although serving an initial period as a patrolman in an extremely dangerous district of Johannesburg, he then went on to join the Special Task Force, which he felt fit his particular skillset more. His time as a policeman in South Africa left him with a contempt for the service, after he resigned in 2004 following a questionable shooting incident, where he fired on an unarmed target. No charges were brought against him following this incident, and he instead took his skills to the private sector.
From 2004, Jack went between working for several private military contractors and working as an independent security contractor and consultant between the east and in Africa. Around this time Kruger also dabbled in weapons sales, being accused of illegal arms dealing. He gained a reputation as an extremely reliable and skilled operative among these circles, which led to him being headhunted by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation in 2009 as it was expanding its' company security forces.
Serving as a Leading Operator for WY-SEC from 2009, Jack mainly worked on corporate operations in South Africa, however also worked on deployments in East Asia, the Middle East, and in the USA. It was during a VIP protection gig in New York that Jack met his now-wife, Olivia-Fae, and began dating her. Two years later, in 2016 he married Olivia-Fae Kruger. Rising through the company's ranks, Kruger eventually found his way into the ranks of senior management. During his time in WY-SEC, he gained his Master's Degree (with honours) in Military Sciences. He worked at varying levels in WY-SEC management in the US, including in the troubled TrueNorth Division, and rose to become the Executive in charge of WY-SEC, reporting to and responsible for the CEO, Peter Weyland's personal security.
In mid-2020 Kruger unexpectedly resigned his position in the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, following a disciplinary dispute in which two employees of WY-SEC were accused of terrorism, removed from operations and reported to the police by Kruger. Leaving with immediate effect, WY-SEC stocks briefly went into turmoil due to uncertainty around future plans, and his position was ultimately taken up by his friend and former second-in-command, Steve Hughes. Kruger then immediately brought his side business, Kruger Security, to the forefront, opening the subsidiary the Horizon Group, buying new properties, expanding the business to start selling more weapons and equipment, and taking on security contracts. Kruger and his wife, Olivia, have also formed a charitable organisation, the Jack & Olivia Kruger Foundation, to provide humanitarian relief in war-torn countries, however some have suggested that this organisation is simply a gunrunning front for Kruger and a source of profit for him and Olivia.
On August 6th, 2021, Jack Kruger was killed when his car was bombed. Police determined that earlier the same day he was implicit in the murder of Peter Weyland, and the disappearance of Raylan Givens.
