Map change will increase playerbase for a few weeks an die off.
Theres a few development projects in the works, Once completed and launched that will hopefully add more excitement back to the gamemode!
shits been on decline for like years, its the game as a whole
We can't go back to a map that lacks in anything exciting and new to bring to the table. We should look into something that adds something fresh to the player and fixes the numerous problems both v4b1 and Rockford have.
Oh yes LimeLight is dying. It used to be brilliant back in 2015, but as one says you can never bring back the past, even if you brought all the old players, all the old content, all the old maps. It’s just not possible. As much as I had loved LimeLight, The playerbase, attitude, changes and just in general toxicity I see on a daily basis just ruined it imo
Think about it. In the most recent months, how many good players that actually gave two shits about the communities wellbeing left? Many. Fuck, I’ve even spoken to current and retired Staff Members, they feel the same.
LimeLight is on a downwards slope, but I wish it could be going up
Thank you for all commenting good and bad if i was here to see what happened id be the same too be honest i wish i was here back in those times as thats quite honestly what LL is missing and i feel like you are 100% right but we need to do something to lighten up because im sorry yesterday not tryna call out names but the other City RP server had 64 on yesterday we had 32 when i first joined it was literally sometimes the other way round
I think one of the main reasons why most people become toxic or change their attitude towards the community is that most of our players are considered as young teenagers (13-19) whom are most likely going through a lot of changes in their lives and at the same time trying to figure out what their stance on things are.
With that being said you can easily see those changes be reflected on them as a player on the community, maybe they just grew tried of RP? maybe they just don't like it anymore? maybe they became more sensitive? maybe they became more hot headed and arrogant? A lot can change in a person's life in a few years, and it is easy to blame someone else when you are upset and leave, but if you really look at it in a different perspective LL in 2015 didn't change as much today, just a map change and extra content, maybe its your perspective of the game that also changed.
Its how you view the gamemode and role-play that makes the server fun or not for you, you can't expect people to make content that would suit your RP style or to change the map to the RP style that you like or a map that you are comfortable with a few years ago. Why not shape your RP or your entertainment in the way that would fit the current map and use the best of it while you can.
Don't get me wrong I agree that rockford is not a good map at all, but I think the map subject is very sensitive to the community and it seems like EVERYONE knows what's best for the community and also are willing to literally fight each other and hate each other or leave the community if their suggested map wasn't picked. The sad thing is that when people always think they know what's best for the community and not give anyone a chance to prove that maybe you are not right in this one, most people if they see something they don't like or dislike "fuck this im leaving the community" literally, teacher application gets denied = leaves community, suggestions don't get attention = leaves community, people not agreeing with me AKA = Everyone hates me = leaves community. It just seems to me that a lot of people just want reasons to leave the community on a bad note.
To go back on the original post about the map change, though a map change will bring back a couple of players but what would keep them interested for them to be fully back to the community? if someone lost interest in RP they most likely won't enjoy it much like they did in the past.
/rant.
LL isn't dying, it's something people say as a made-up reason for leaving.
The playerbase does however change over time, so from a subjective perspective it might seem as if the server is "dying" because the people who were there when you started and that you used to play with are no longer there.
As has been mentioned earlier, a large majority of LL's playerbase are teenagers and as such generally don't have a lot of personal obligations which allows them to play more often. As people grow older they get more obligations and simply don't have time to be on all the time, leading to missing out on events and interactions, and can eventually lead to deciding not to play at all in order to pursue other endeavours.
The amount of players joining is roughly the same as players leaving though, so it's simply a change in playerbase.
Saying that LL is dying is like saying that the world is dying because your grandparents passed away.
For clarity in video form:
When people say stuff like "Is the server dying" , I imagine it's because the "current" round of minges are hitting the end of their banned road.
It is a Friday evening and there are currently only 16 players online. Highest player count was around 25 today. Seems really bad for a Friday?

It does seem kinda bad, but I reflect low numbers against bans, especially permabans. I've noticed that though there are influxes of people over the cycle, many of them seem to get into enough trouble to end up going to a difference city rp server. Then they eventually return, saying they came to play this time. They'll play for a bit, go back to breaking rules, then leave again.
Vicious cycle. Hard to keep up players when everyone wants to play "lets jump ship after trolling for a while."
People are okay with being trolls to one another, holding the staff to some insane standard, generally don't give two shits about anything past their small circle, and move in waves. Every other gmod community has the same issues. Either you have a lower population of people whom legit wanna play and give a shit, or you have a high population where there are more people who simply do not care.
Position titles, hours, REPs, are all equally meaningless against this, as people will do it regardless. There is almost no loyalty to anything but self, from what I can tell.
Many ways to fix the low population, but very few truly good ones.
Lastly, many of the players are getting older, choosing interests in life over gmod, where as many of us have chosen to be semi-lifeless in our semi-seriousness.

It really is not when that Friday is in September, don't forget that a portion of our userbase is young people (17-23+) that want to go out instead of sitting in and playing Garry's Mod. As for the younger players, some of them are in their first weeks of school while others are about to start. In some places universities/colleges have started too.
LL lacks charm. Staff is constantly trying to push more and more features, additions, changes and PROFESSIONALISM on it, and it completely removes the core aspect of what LL (Or early FL for that matter) was about.
It's not dying. It's rotting.
wipe bans so everyone comes back and everyone is happy
