The first thing a player must do, is create their character. A character is a fictional person that is developed by a player over time, and is used to experience events inside the virtual world of CityRP. Some players only focus on one character, while other players focus on many. In this case, you will be developing a character that belongs to a crime syndicate, specifically the Italian Mafia. The first thing any player should do when creating a character, is brainstorming ideas for their name.

Brainstorming Your Name:

Here you will create your character's name. This is a very important aspect of your character, and should be treated as such. Thinking of a good name can be very hard at times, but in the end, it is really worth it. You should try as much as possible to brainstorm an intelligent, unique name, such as Ancleto, or Antonello. Be sure to think hard on this one. Below I have created a list of unique mobster names.

Male Names:

Female Names:

Once you have picked out a unique first name for your character, it's time to choose a last name. There are some well-known family names in the Italian mob, including the Genovese, Lucchese, and the Corleone families, all of which have made a name for themselves. Now it's your turn. Either create your own name for your crime syndicate or choose one from the list below. Make sure it looks presentable along with your first name.

Constructing Your Description:

Now it's time to describe your character. Sadly, you only have a short amount of characters to do this ingame, but if you'd like, you can have unlimited space for describing your character on the forum. But for this portion of the guide, we will only be discussing what to write in your ingame description. First, you should state your ingame age. When roleplaying as a crime family, a character should be about 25 - 45 years old, if they are a regular member of the group. If they are the head of the family, or a family elder, they should be around 55 - 85 years old. Keep in mind, this will vary between most players.

After writing your age, you should state some basic physical description of your character. Whether he or she is tall, or short, etc. Again, this may vary, and there are many options to choose from. Some options consist of height, weight, skin tone, eye color, hair color, hygiene, and emotion.

Finally, you should state something about your character itself, whether he or she is wearing a suit or dress, or wearing glasses or any other physical item. Sadly, many items, such as glasses, or watches cannot be seen on your character literally, but this does not mean you can't have them wear it. Also be sure to format it correctly, and make it neat and tidy.

An example of a well-written and formatted description would be as follows:

32 Years Old | 6'1" | Caucasian | Trimmed | Kind | Wears a Blue Suit

After you have created your character, it's time to get into the action. But first, you must lay down the law. You must state the ranks of your family, and rules, along with set guidelines and roles. This may take some time, but remember, this will define how your family operates internally, and will show what it really is about. Take your time on this, as this will be a key part in creating your own crime syndicate.

Creating Your Ranks:

After creating your basic crime family, you must set up some ranks. Be realistic with these ranks, as they show what you and your family really are in the outside world. Below I have stated some ranks for crime families.

Once you have stated your family ranks, you can set up rules and guidelines for your family to follow. You can either be lenient, or strict. If lenient, be sure to go easy on your family, and treat them like family. If strict, act harsh towards them, make an example of them. Either way is up to you, but it all depends on if you want to keep their loyalty towards you at a high standard. This can sometimes become a problem if there is a conspiracy in the family, and you believe some members are turning against you. You can either not believe that it's happening, or you can end it, and make an example out of the conspirators. These guidelines are up to you to create.

Setting Up Internal Affairs:

When acting as a member of a crime syndicate, there are always things that have to be dealt with internally, whether it be a tough decision, or a controversial suggestion. This is self-explanatory.

Finally, once you have set up your character and family, you can start roleplaying. When roleplaying in a crime family, it is extremely important to take most things seriously, or something bad could happen. Especially if roleplaying aggressively, be sure to follow the rules so you don't accidentally get banned or blacklisted. Also, make sure that you know what you are doing.

Passively Roleplaying:

When passively roleplaying as a mobster, it is important that you realize what passive roleplay is. Passive roleplay is roleplaying without harming anyone or anything, and avoiding the use of weaponry. Sometimes it can become confusing when passively roleplaying as a mobster, as the role is mostly built around aggressive roleplay. This can be easily avoided if you do the right thing. Also, make sure you understand that having contraband can get you and your fellow crime members arrested.

Aggressively Roleplaying:

When roleplaying aggressively, it is important that you understand the rules of the server. Make sure you have a reason for everything you do, whether it be extorting a shop, or robbing a civilian blind. Note that aggressive roleplay is frowned upon, and does not encourage players to roleplay to their passive extent.

Knowledge of the Subject:

It is very important to know what you are doing, and not making a fool of yourself. Be sure to understand how things went in crime families, and also comprehend how mobster roleplay is conducted. Be sure to be realistic at most times, especially when it adds to the roleplay experience. Make sure that you know what mobsters do, and how you can recreate what the do on CityRP. As the gamemode is very extensive, almost anything is possible.

Addition of Ambience:

Finally, be sure to add some ambience to your roleplay scenarios. This means either having a very decorative building, or even having music playing in the background. Personally, I believe having music in the background is a key element to roleplay, so I prefer to use it any time I can. As well as having audio additions, you can have physical additions, like stated before. Be sure to build a decorative scenario when roleplaying as a mobster, and make sure that the scenario matches up with the mobster role. An example of this would be an area inside of a vacant building, such as the old motel, where illegal things are conducted.

Here is a great example of some audio that could be used when roleplaying as an Italian mobster.
