So, before this turns into a flame thread, or starts to gain comments like "ha wot a stupid k1d", just read this first.
Ok, a 'minigames' kinda server. So, sometimes when we get, not exactly bored of CityRP but instead are in a sorta mingey mood and just wanna release, maybe a server in the kind of minigames sector as you will.
When I say this, I mean gamemodes like
"Deathrun"
"Jailbreak"
"TTT"
"Prophunt"
Before I make an actual suggestion, maybe some feedback from the community would be good on what you think of the idea?
Long story short, a stress relief server.
I recon it could be something kinda good, expanding the community, bringing more members, donations to support the development of the CityRP + community, they're really easy to setup!, take up almost nothing to run making it cheap.
All around it could be done easily and quickly, and would most likely benefit the community, greatly if not at least a little!
I don't mind opinions, but being a dick is something else..
Well its fun to play but I dont see why we would need our own server for it.

Not only does it help advertise the community in a fun way, but it also allows users who enjoy LimeLight to play on a server they could almost call 'Home' - Allowing them to play other gamemodes they enjoy whilst still in the good spirit of the community.

I understand this, and if it were to happen it should be a gamemode that wouldn't represent the community in a way of just RDM + Rule break which is why you'd pick the one with the least writable rules, or the least chance of rule breakage occuring (Which from experience would be Deathrun)
I used to belong to another community before CityRP, and we had a deathrun server amongst others..It went down pretty well actually. I think expansion into other servers like this could be a positive thing as long as sustained support is given (by both devs, admins and community members) - it would likely help us expand CityRP too as it could act as a draw (assuming right advertisement is given on said server.)
It wouldn't take a great deal of resources to set up a TTT server or Deathrun, and they are a good plug to get us some extra donations and activity..But going of previous attempts to expand, I'd question whether sustained development and dedication could be given.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to have a centralized "minigame server" where you join into a lobby and choose a minigame, but at the moment I still think we need to keep time to optimization and/or big projects on CityRP. Yes we can plan it, but I don't believe we should divert resources or dev to it just yet.
From a personal standpoint, I do believe the previous expansions (Minecraft, Space Engineers) were not thought out and more worked on as the days went on. If we are going to want to do this right, there has to be planning, butt load of dev time, and community input on what THEY want.

With this, when you say a butt load of dev time, to start with the (example) Deathrun gamemode would not have to be custom in many ways, or anything along them lines. All it takes is a few scripts from gmodstore.com and it's basically done.
If the server(s) development team were unable to spend too much current time on the new server (had it be released), all you'd need to do is make someone who has spent too much money on the website with the correct scripts a contributor (E.G.
) and then have someone else upload the scripts, just so that the licencer doesn't attack the licencee.
Then give someone, with the knowledge to edit a .lua or .txt or what ever, to edit these documents to then take some work off of the main developers hands
If it were to happen, this amount of scripts would be my donation at least because a second Minigame server would be me complete for ever and ever (75 scripts)

Then we would need to tailor it towards our needs for our community (prizes, labeling, etc) and still take dev time away from optimizing, bug fixing, and working on major projects that benefit the one server that keeps us a float. I know it's fairly easy, but that's no excuse to go in gun hoe. We need to plan this out so it isn't a flop like the rest have been.

very true I guess. I mean, another thing that would be an option would to be to hire an external developer from the website to change the theme, then upload it, making sure there is no time taken away from the main server development?
