Max Cairns, former Director of Anti-Terrorism and Security at the Department of Homeland Security has resigned from his position, leaving an open letter to the chief of staff denouncing the activities of the agency, particularly the Customs and Border Patrol division. The letter describes how the Director watched as the agency became an over-militarized occupational force, and ignored set guidelines for proper procedure and use of force, going so far as to label them as "gun-toting, overly equipped terrorists," which anyone living under their rule can certainly attest to. The full open letter can be read below.

Max Cairns Wrote:To Chief of Staff,

I, Max Cairns, Director of Anti-Terrorism and Security, am resigning due to a number of reasons. The one I must specify to the Chief of Staff, is although most divisions are off-duty, Customs and Border Security has been giving the United States Department of Homeland Security the public image it was not meant to give.

It appears from first glance that the US DHS has become nothing more than gun-toting, overly equipped terrorists. The leadership of Custom and Border Security division has been lacking in intellectual value, both common and professional.

The United States Department of Homeland Security is meant to protect U.S. Citizens from foreign attacks on U.S. soil, not guard a checkpoint to the city in the same state with five armed men that seem to be equipped for an invasion. I have offered my professional assistance by even laying down a formal set of guidelines and conduct for divisions to follow, only to be ignored.

I understand I have been absent of my duties along with my subordinates, but that does not justify that actions of Customs and Border Security. I leave this resignation letter to my superiors with a request. Do not turn this defense made for the people into a private military company, because from where I'm standing, it's becoming more clear that that is it's goal at the moment.

This damning denunciation from one of the top officials of the DHS is yet another piece of evidence that government agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security are not working in the people's best interest and are not to be trusted. All citizens should be wary of agents of the DHS and any associated agencies.

I hope the irony of a non-American being the director of the Customs and Border Security and committing potential constitutional violations is not lost on anyone
