[Image: y0embIK.png] Before the Planning Begins

Before you start planning an event, you’ll first have to decide upon the type of event you want to make. There are many types of events you can choose from and all of these require different preparations. These are;

[Image: D7pZLUb.png] Events that needs a Developer to upload a certain file.
[Image: NrzFphh.png] Events that can be prepared without a Developer.
[Image: cnpE73i.png] Events that have specific roles for everyone who wants to join.
[Image: VO8J5UM.png] Events that don’t require everyone to have a specific role and apply.
[Image: zcP7ZvV.png] Events that can be held on the main server.
[Image: otEeJzp.png] Events that need to be held on the Event server.

Note: While the ones with the same colour can’t be combined, the others can be combined.

If your event requires a Developer to upload files, be sure to talk to a developer about it first, but take note the developers are very busy and it is rare for uploads to get approved.

[Image: 0fxa8xD.png] The Planning Phase
When you’ve decided on what type of event you’d like to make, now the planning phase begins. But there are things that you should not do during this process.

[Image: k1b4epW.png] Making the event too detailed.

Making an event too detailed may seem like a good thing, but it is actually a factor that increases the risk of the event failing. Everything can not go according to your plan as there are players who might think differently than you have imagined. Keep the event open, not too closed or else the event may get stuck at some point.

[Image: 8WajxQu.png]Having too many roles to apply for.
Having options is great but when there is too many roles to apply to, there is a possiblity of the roles not filling up and pushing the event date further and further, possibly canceling it in the end.

The preparation of an event and its thread requires 6 things.

[Image: k1b4epW.png] Backstory / Introductory Text
   [Image: 8WajxQu.png] Roles (Depends)
   [Image: qbsrRVH.png] Application form (Depends)
[Image: bhAVBOe.png] Files to download | Required Files (Depends)
[Image: 4EsUkVM.png] A Staff member to oversee the event
   [Image: DYNcmd0.png] Date
         It can also have;
           Images
           Videos

[Image: k1b4epW.png] Backstory

The backstory is what mostly attracts the players, giving them an idea about your event and whether they’ll like it or not. This should be prefered to be written in a semi-serious/serious tone so that the players will take the event seriously. It can be placed

Example:
Quote:The President of EvoCity from 2007-2015 was known to be corrupt, he often stole money from the Government and spent in on personal luxuries such as cars, jewelry and gadgets. It want until late 2015 when the Vice President, Miss Emelia Fraser, found out that her boss was corrupt and on this discovery she immediately started to question him. The President was not fond of this and didn't want her to speak out to the public, therefore he paid the Police Sergeant $100,000 to get his squad to arrest her. Emelia managed to escape and took 15,000 of the City's population of 55,000 to form a new independent state - New EvoCity. About 4 days after the split tensions began to rise, and Emelia called in her Council to discuss an attack on EvoCity and raid the Nexus. This plan was put into motion 2 days later when Emelia's forces crossed the border and entered EvoCity, they swiftly moved to nexus and after about 3 hours of work they destroyed the Nexus' barrier. When they made it to the final stage (The President's Office) they were greeted by the remaining police force with weapons such as AR-15's and AWP's. After successfully killing the guards the Rebellion tortured the President to teach him a lesson before Emelia's brother had the honor of ending the President's life.

Introductory Text
Instead of having a backstory you can always have a text that describes your event, giving information regarding it, in an in character manner.

Example:

Quote:
Welcome to the very first NASCAR race hosted in Evocity

This year, everyone in Evocity has the chance to compete in this NASCAR annual race.
You only have to prepare your Dodge Charger for what is coming.
Time is running, you only got a few weeks to prepare. Be the fastest.

[Image: 8WajxQu.png] Roles
Some events require roles that will be played by players, like actors in a play or movie. If your event is one of these it is best list the roles in the thread you’ve made.

Example:

Quote:
Security
Bambo
(1/10)

[Image: qbsrRVH.png] Application Form
If your event has roles that players will apply for, it is suggested to have an event form so you can get an overall idea on the player and whether he fits the role or not. It will also help you organize the event.

Example:

Quote:
Steam Name:
Steam ID:
What role are you applying for?
Why?
Bans/Blacklists?

[Image: bhAVBOe.png] Files to Download | Required Files
If you have talked with an developer and was able to have your files uploaded it is best you list these in the thread. If a player needs to have Left for Dead 2 content pack for example, you should list it on your thread.

[Image: 4EsUkVM.png] Staff Member to Oversee the Event
To ensure everything goes well with your event, you should always have a staff member overseeing it. You can reach staff members on the forums by sending them a PM.

[Image: DYNcmd0.png] Date
It is best to decide on a date for the event to happen so people can apply accordingly. If you don’t have a certain date, people who have applied may not be able to join.

[Image: E9LmhCK.png] The event thread can also have images to improve the look of the thread attracting more players and videos that show the general idea of the event, advertising it.

If you need to build for the event it is suggested that;
[Image: 0xLNAAy.png] You get help. You can always ask people to help you build. You can announce it on the thread you’ve made or in-game.
[Image: 0xLNAAy.png] You build in the Build server.

[Image: ABG6pb5.png] Attracting Attention
To get an event up and running without bumping the thread you can make a poster about the event or a trailer for it.

Trailer Example:

[Image: wW2nYlB.png] Day of the Event
At the day of the event it is suggested that you join 1-2 hours before the event begins to make sure everything is like what you have planned. Before the event begins you can also encourage people to record or take photos so you can post them afterwards on the forums or the thread. Be aware that not everything can go according to plan. Try to make the best out of the moment and make sure people have a fun time.

[Image: 4fJI4HD.png] Conclusion
Events should be fun for everybody, and no one should feel left out. Creating an event may look like a lot of work but in the end, it will all be worth it. Don’t worry if something didn’t go according to plan or it has taken a lot of time, wait it out or give small hints that won’t ruin the fun. An event is an open ended play, where every player has their own way of acting, if they don’t act like you’ve planned them to, don’t get frustrated, as I said before, an event which has every movement and action planned might fail, let people act the way they wish to as restricting them will limit the fun.

Stickied.

Good job, Bambo! Hopefully this'll help people make even more events.
