Hey there,
This thread has been created due to recent misunderstandings of how to actually make a suspension appeal. To many this is second nature as you fully understand the system but since our population growth, newer players are joining the community so hopefully this thread will assist them should they wish to appeal a suspension.
Step 1: What's first?
Direct yourself to the "Suspension" tab which can be found on the top of the page and then select "Bans".
Step 2: Find your suspension.
Finding your suspension is rather simple, however, it's easier for you to find it if you appeal the ban soon after it's issued because it will likely be on the front page. Failing that, enter your SteamID into the search field at the top of the page. Assuming you've found the correct ban, you should see something similar to this:
Step 3: Creating the thread
Okay so there have been some minor errors where people have left out vital information from their thread or haven't used the correct template. The reason we have a template is so that our systems can notify the correct staff member should one of their suspensions receive an appeal. To ensure that the process of appealing a ban can proceed swiftly, we insist players use the template which can be found here.
Here is what a suspension appeal should look like:
Notice in the above picture how the fields have been answered. While your appeal should be as informative as possible, this is how it should be set-out. A common mistake in most unban requests is that players will leave out the [L²]/[L²:M] tag. Failing to put the tag before the name of the staff member will result in them not being notified about the appeal so please make sure to add the correct tag there.
Step 4: Await for the staff member to reply
From here it's just a matter of when the staff member is available. Keep in mind that the particular staff member who issued your suspension could be on leave, have left the community/team or simply just isn't online at that moment in time. Fear not though, staff are required to respond to their appeals as we are held accountable for the punishments that we issue.
Never ever, regardless of how long you've waited, should you PM a staff member regarding your appeal. If your unban request hasn't been answered for up to seven days, the case will fall in your favour (except if the staff member is retired/demoted, the punishment is older than 2 months, the punishment is permanent, or the issuing staff member has a serious reason for being unable to respond - to be decided by HR).
Step 5: The outcome
Whether or not your appeal is approved or denied will fall under the jurisdiction of the staff member who issued it, however, they can ask for another staff member to review the case and conclude it with their permission because having that extra person review it makes the process fairer for all parties involved.
"My unban request was denied, what happens now?"
Unfortunately there are only a few things you can do. The most common answer to that question would be to appeal it later down the line with any further evidence you have acquired or to contact one of our supervising administrators regarding your concern should you have a valid reason for concern, of course.
There are several rules about further appealing your suspension after it has been denied. Our rules regarding the matter can be found on the rules page.
Personal Message
Hopefully this guide has helped you in creating your appeal. Should you have any questions regarding the process, please feel free to contact any of our staff members with your questions.
